Us
We offer both the "Typical Type" as well as TRUE "Show Type" Charcoal , Champagne, and Silver Labradors with top Import, Show and Field pedigrees.
We offer Superior Quality "Dilute Labrador Retrievers"
These beautiful unique colors are nothing more than "A Unique expression of the Chocolate, Yellow and Black gene" proven by DNA testing, and registered as Yellow/Black and Chocolate.
We realize that there are some at this time that have issues with these "Dilute Coat Colors", (or Silver Labradors and Charcoal Labradors) and that the LRC, at this time, has now changed their position on this coat color and now consider it Silver, and a disqualification, (which was not originally the case, as up until now they considered the silvers that were being registered, to be just a shade of Chocolate, and thus wanted them registered as such). However we know that research and DNA testing has shown that they are dilute coat colors of Choc, Black and Yellow, which possess the 'dd' genes, and We happen to love these unique colors of Labrador Retrievers, as do most of the people that we talk to and that we run into, that are just now finding out about them. Thus we breed them because we like the challange of improving them with each and every breeding, adding some of the best pedigrees that can be found in the Labrador breed, to the dilute colors, and breeding them with the correct structure and conformation that they should be bred for. We enjoy what we are doing and know that those clients looking for the best Silver Labradors and Charcoal Labradors that they can get, will enjoy owning one of our dogs, as well. We will continue to breed for these colors, as well as for the traditional Standard shades of the Yellow/Black and Chocolate coat colors, and will continue to do so responsibly. As for now, the Silver (Dilute Choc), the Charcoal (Dilute Black), and the Champagne (Dilute Yellow) are still registered as Chocolate, Black, and Yellow Labrador Retrievers, with the AKC. Towards the bottom of this page, you will see a Link that you can click on to get more information about the controverty surrounding these beautiful, unique coat colors. Be sure to take a look at those pages, you will find them very informative. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime.
Our Statement on Silver Labradors
silverhomepage001025.gif
Click the link below to see interesting facts about "Labrador Show Breeders" and "Judges" that oppose the Dilute Labrador coat colors.
To get an idea of the soundness of these foundation lines of ours, that we are adding to the Silver/Charcoal/Champagne lines, go to our Stud Dog page, and click on the link next to Harleys picture--- "a tribute to soundness and type" this demonstrates very well just how great these lines are and why we are concentrating on building our Dilute breeding program using these lines, that we have had for over 15 years now and have produced many many generations of sound dogs out of. Harley is only one of our many foundation Stud dogs and Bitches, that our breeding program is based on.

We have lead the way in the Silver Labrador (Dilute Labrador) breeding world, pioneering the way. by being the first to accomplish many things with these Dilute coat colors. We were the first breeder to put a title on a Dilute Labrador, and that dog was our world renowned boy "Chief", who was not only the first Dilute Labrador to get a title, but the first Silver Labrador to get a title, and the first to get two titles in two different kennel clubs (please see Chiefs page). Chief accomplished his AKC CD and CKC (Canadian) CD, before he was even a year old. This was quite an accomplishment considering what controversy we had to endure to get there. We dont let controversy stop us!
We are proud to be the first breeder ever, to produce a Dilute Yellow Labrador Retriever, pioneering the way for the "Champagne" coat color, that so many are talking about now. This has been proven by DNA and has been documented as such. It is a Yellow Labrador that carries the double dilute 'dd' gene. This happened as a result of our "Improvement" breeding that we were doing, during which we have added many of our top yellow lines to the Dlutes, thus being able to produce the Dilute Yellow/Champagne coat color. If you have any questions about this color please feel free to contact us anytime.
It is more important to us, that we better the Dilute lines, by improving the Type and Pedigree with each breeding, along with outcrossing to over power the in-breeding that has been done up to this point. Therefore you will find that right now in our breeding program, we actually breed very few all silver litters, (if any) and are concentrating more on breeding OUR Yellow/Choc/White/Black/Fox-Red CH/Import and Titled dogs to these " Dilute Colored Labradors" that are new to our Breeding program. We are one of only two Dilute breeders that are very active in showing, titling and competing in many different areas of competition with our dogs, in several different Kennel Clubs, thus adding titles to these Silver pedigrees, that again before now were non-existant. This way we are working our way to producing better quality puppies, with improved pedigrees, conformation and type, and more and more titles, with each and every breeding, which is more important to us, than making quick money. We are always looking towards the future, and what quality we can put into the dogs and our breeding program, and have many goals for our breeding program, and so each of our breedings gets us closer to our "Ultimate Goal" of producing the best Silver and Charcoal Labradors that you will be able to find.
We are currently striving to produce, the best Dilute breeding program that you will be able to find anywhere, which will produce top quality dogs, with impeccable titled pedigrees with proper conformation and structure, movement, type and attitude. We feel that by doing this we are helping other breeders to see the need for "Improvement' in the Silver Labrador and the Charcoal Labrador, as that is what this is all about to us--Improvement. We hope we can help other sincere breeders, who want to make a difference, to improve their Dilute breeding programs, along with the help of our already established breeding program. There are a lot of breeders that boast the same statements, but a close look at the quality of the pups being produced between our litters and most of what is out there, proves that we are not just saying this, the evidence and proof is well documented in our Breeding Program and what it is producing in comparison. Our breeding program is dedicated to producing "Improvement Litters", which are of the best quality, conformation, temperment, type, soundest genetics and best lines/pedigrees, including many titles and import lines, that you will be able to find, which will include generations of our lines (able to be seen right here on our property) and generations of clearances and titles, which have been virutally non-existant before now. We are one of only two Silver breeders that are testing for PRA/Prcd, and we are one of only a couple breeders that are actively showing in several different Kennel Clubs and thus are bringing in more titles and top pedigrees, all the time, to add to our breeding program.

Because "IMPROVEMENT" has been and continues to be, our main goal, and because this is a priority here at Red Rock Ranch, we have been, and will continue to be, very selective in the lines that we allow, to be introduced, into our Dilute breeding program. This assures us that we are not allowing any outside problems into our already established, sound, proven breeding program, by bringing in any Dilute and Dilute Factored lines, that are not bred off of our own dogs lines, or from already established "Improved" and proven, Dilute lines of superior pedigree. You will find that these are the only outside SF lines that we will be introducing back into our breeding program, thus we make sure that there is no chance of bringing in outside problems. We will not bring any 'non-improved' Dilute lines into our program, as this would only make us go backwards in the Improvement process.

Many people have asked me over and over again, why our Dilute Labradors look so different from other Dilute Labradors that they see out there. You probably noticed that a lot of the Dilute Labradors you see out there, seem to be of very poor quality, some even bordering on not even looking like the breed standard. The reason for this is that when a new color, type, or trait is discovered within a breed, the original specimins, will not be of the best quality to start with, and unfortunately a lot of inbreeding must take place, because the gene pool for that new type (or in this case-new color) is so small and limited, that a breeder has no choice but to breed two dogs with the same trait, to each other, and a lot of times this will result in what we call inbreeding. Thus to overide the strong (undesireable) traits, bred in by the inbreeding in the foundation of the new color or type, you must bring in new blood, new lines, to outweigh the traits that are so strongly present. I personally dont care for the look, quality or type of the original Dilute Labradors (those with what I call a Typical Silver/Charcoal pedigree and original look). They just were not of the quality that we were used to producing in our breeding program, and certainly not what we wanted to be producing. Thus we took on the job (and I mean JOB) of 'Improving" the Dilute lines we started with. Even though I feel that the lines we started with and the dogs that we used as our foundation to our Dilute breeding program, were extremely sound, and very nice when compared to most of what was out there at the time, I just still felt the need to 'Improve' on them, to produce them in the quality that we are used to producing our puppies in, here at RRR. This is why I personally feel that to better these original Dilute lines, a breeder needs to concentrate on not bringing in more of the original Dilute lines, (which brings in more of the bad qualities that you see, in most of the Dilutes out there) but bringing in as many non-related show lines, and non-Dilute lines as possible, to better the 'type', 'structure', 'quality' and 'conformation' of the next generation of Dilute labradors. Thus, this is what our Dilute breeding program is founded on. And we feel that most people can see that our dogs look a lot different, to what they see being produced out there in other kennels, and this is the reason why. We do not bring any of the 'original' lines back into our breeding program, this would hinder our progress.
Silver Hill puppy
Because of the high demand for silver puppies, We have been seeing a trend lately, of many people jumping on the "band-wagon" of breeding "Silver Labradors" and "Charcoal Labradors", with no consideration for bettering the breed. Thus there are many problems being bred into these Silver and Charcoal dogs, that don't need to be, and no effort to try and keep the lines, that are responsible for producing the problems, out of their breeding programs. Thus extreme caution is needed in order to find a breeder that is truly breeding to better the breed and not soley to make a quick buck at the expense of our breed. Because of the popularity of the "Silver Labrador"and now the"Charcoal Labrador", and the fact that for most of these breeders, they sell their Silver and Charcoal puppies for more than the other colors, we also see that many breeders are breeding as many, all silver litters, as they can, or breeding to produce these colors and they dont pay any attention to the pedigrees that they are crossing. There are even some breeders that are breeding their bitches as many times as possible and until they are well over a safe age to be bred, just in order to gain the highest profit possible. You wil find that this is not the case with us and our breeding program.
Pheasant Hill Retrievers has now been able to add to our already established superior breeding program, this beautiful, unique expression of the Chocolate gene, which we call--Silver, or Gray. They are what we are referring to as the "Dilute Labrador Retriever" as they carry the 'dd' gene. We have also just recently produced the Charcoal coat color, because the 'dd' gene, when combined with the Black coat color, is diluting the Black coat color to a gorgeous Charcoal color, which some call blue. Leading the way once again, we have pioneered yet another aspect of breeding for 'dilute coat colors' in our breed, when we produced the first known, (genetically tested and proven) Dilute Yellow Labrador, or Champagne as it is called. Our Dilute foundation lines, come from one specific line, and one line only. We have based our Silver breeding program on crossing these already established, and proven Silver lines, (that are producing Charcoal, and Champagne now) with OUR already established wonderful, proven, breeding program, of Yellow, Black and Chocolate show lines, that we have built over the last 15 years, with 6, 7 and 8 generations now under our belt. Silver Hill is the only Silver Breeder that had an already established yellow/black/choc (show/champion/import pedigree) breeding program to add these new silver and charcoal lines to, thus creating a Quality and Standard that was unsurpassed by any breeding program out there. With our Improvement process we are now working on our 4th generation of Improvement lines in the Dilute coat colors. We feel that the superior quality of our dogs and dedication to "Improvement" is visibly seen by what we are now producing.
This "Silver Hill" website is designed to answer the many questions that Im sure you will have for us about this 'Silver', and now the "Charcoal" (or even Champagne) coat color. You will find it to be very informative and educational, thus bringing as much, correct and positive exposure as possible, to these awesome coat colors. It follows the same simple, wonderful, and well put-together design that our "Pheasant Hill"/"Red Rock Ranch" site, has offerd to our clients for many many years. And you will recieve the same wonderful, caring, and respectful treatment from us, in your endeavor to find the right puppy for your family. In the meantime, please feel free to contact us with any questions that you may have about these rare and unique coat colors, and our unique breeding program. We cater to the client that is very serious about taking the time to do the research in finding the best possible, highest quality puppy, for their next family companion, not those who are just wanting to buy the first puppy they come across. In your search you will find that there are tons of Silver and Charcoal puppies being produced out there, but very few of TRUE quality. Because we concentrate purely on "Improvement" we usually have a waiting list for our Silver/Charcoal puppies, so if you want one of our pups, it could be a bit of a wait sometimes. Because of the number of inquiry calls that we receive each day, combined with us traveling a lot due to the dog showing that we do, and now with us in the process of relocating, sometimes you will have to leave us a message, and it may take us a few days to get back to you. We are more than happy to talk with each potential client, personally, and for as long as you need to talk with us for, in order for you to get all your questions answered. So please be assured that if you leave us a msg, we will get back with you ASAP, but sometimes it does take us awhile to get back with you, and know that our goal is not to produce a large # of dilute puppies to make sales, so we probably wont have puppies available, but we do have a waiting list for those that want the best. Also feel free to email us anytime, your inquiries are always welcome. Things happen (emails dont go through, or msgs get erased, people forget to leave their phone #'s) so if you do email or call and leave a msg, and you dont hear back from us within 3 days, please contact us again. It is never a bother, no matter how many times you leave a msg or email us, we would love to talk with you.

Silver Labradors and Charcoal Labradors
(Silver Labrador)
Toby is 1 1/2 years old, and is out of two very nice Chocolate Factored, Show bred dogs, with phenominal pedigrees. You will not find a better pedigree anywhere, on a dog that carries the dilute gene. He is DNA tested and proven to carry the dilute gene, and thus is dilute factored. He can produce Black/Chocolate/Charcoal/Silver He may also carry yellow, but has not been tested for it. He has been hip/elbow xrayed-clear (OFA rating pending) Both of his grandfathers are Multi-Titled and his Dads Sire, was the #1 top 10 Labrador for 2007, and is a multi CH, multi titled and a registered therapy dog. He sports a very impressive Improved show pedigree. Please contact us for further info.
silverhomepage001005.jpg
We were also the first Silver Breeder to coin the phrases "Typical Type" and "Show Type" in the Silver Labradors and Charcoal Labradors, and were the first ones to establish a breeding program that offers both the "Typical Type" that everyone was producing (the only type avaiable before now) as well as the "Show Type" Dilute Labradors, as well as being the only breeder to offer a written explanation, complete with pictures of both types, on our website, of what the differences are in the two Types. Before now, and before our breeding program, these Silver and Charcoal Labradors were only being bred and produced in the "Typical Type" and were not available in "Show Type" because no one had taken the time to add the blockier English Show lines into their Dilute lines. But now because of our breeding program, we have developed and established, "Both Types" in the Dilute coat colors, just as we had done in our Yellow/Choc/Black breeding program over the years. We think that this is great and is a step in the right direction for acknowledging that there are different types of Labrador Retrievers, and that not everyone likes one type. They are all Labrador Retrievers but no one can argue that the Types of Labs you see out there nowadays, vary considerably, one from another. And now we can produce a true, 'Show Type" Charcoal and Silver Labrador, for those that like this Style.
